Manchester United v A-League All Stars – 2013

They’re Coming! Manchester United v A-League All Stars – July 2013

It’s just been announced that the World’s most popular sporting team, Premier League club Manchester United, are going to make their way to Sydney in July 2013 for a one off match against a fan picked Hyundai A-League All Stars team. What an absolute coup this is for football in this country!

Obviously as this is a pre-season friendly for Manchester United there is no guarantee that all of their stars will take part in the match, but it just goes to show how much progress the A-League has made in recent years. With Del Piero, Heskey and Ono now gracing our football pitches, and now the biggest football club on the planet coming down under, there is a real buzz and things have only just begun.

It’s been rumoured that the club will endeavour to bring most of their stars out for the clash, with the likes of Rooney, Van Persie and Rio Ferdinand amongst those in line to travel. There is a long way to go before players names can be thrown around though, but at least there is talk of stars coming along for the trip, unlike in 1999 when most of the team, including the manager, stayed in the UK.

Fresh off a thrilling 3-2 win over fierce local rivals Manchester City, Manchester United let the FFA announce the exciting news this morning and they’ll be using the match as a kick start to their preparations for the 2013/14 Premier League season.

Will manager Sir Alex Ferguson still be at the helm for the trip down under or will a new manager have taken over by this point?

Who would you like to see come to Australia next year and which A-League players would you like to see play in this match? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. As fans will be selecting the A-League All Star side, feel free to list your All Star starting 11 in the comments section as well!
